Atlanta on the other hand is a welcome and warming change. on Conversations with God, I actually bought the book for my dad and after he read it I stole it back from him but haven’t had a chance to crack it. But, yes we have similar beliefs, for show…I do believe that religion is divisive and does breed judgement and a lack of tolerance and worstly smug arrogance. Sadly if they all realised that they are saying the same thing–in very basic and reductive terms, if they just turned their own noise down and be silent for a minute they’d get it. Maybe. Maybe not. Thank you for your gracious and thoughtful comment. I have only read portions of the CWG series, mainly “The New Revelations”. The basic principles contained in the books codified the spiritual resting place that I have reached over the past few years. Although no individual (or organized religious collective) has the “answer”, Walsch sets forth many rational pronouncements on the architect’s purpose for mankind.
As to your question regarding my stance on marriage. I am greatly humbled, and I am sure I could be a dutiful spouse, but my county’s health authority refuses to certify me based on my recent blood tests. I am awaiting the vaccine that the corporations assure me is forthcoming. I will keep you advised.
If your comment wasn’t a marriage proposal, than disregard the above paragraph. I believe marriage is a private institution. The government should have no role in licensing any matrimonial ceremony. Nor should they deny privileges or benefits to non-traditional couples who have chosen to wed. To do so is a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Why should heterosexual couples be granted benefits and rights that other couples cannot have? This puts the government in the position of approving certain religious beliefs, and discriminating against others.
Same-sex couples are denied inheritance privileges, tax benefits, child custody rights, and the opportunity to make medical decisions on behalf of their loved one. Marriage is a sacred institution that announces the love that two (or more) individuals have for each other. The government should not seek to influence behavior by creating perverse incentives manipulating individual’s decisions regarding marriage.

Conversations with God? Yeah, I knew a bloke that scored that book and was raving about it. Nothing has really worked out too well for him, the last I heard. Oh well, maybe God just wasn’t speaking loud enough.
Seriously, though, why can’t we just listen to ourselves and our better natures for once instead of giving it a name and some higher purpose. I like to think we’re not alone sometimes myself, but it’s ultimately up to us to stop listening to the voices in our head and start paying attention to what’s going on around us. There is no quick fix, no matter if it’s God, money, truth, fiction or existence. If mankind would take responsibility for his own actions, maybe he could devise a way to fix all that he has screwed up.

I will check out Ghetto Heaven. I am sure Billie Holiday is in a special place, despite her perceived moral failings. Her story is a tragic one and I love her very much. I even named by pet parakeet after her. Unfortunately, Billie (the parakeet) was mauled to death by my cat Henry.
I conducted a burial service for her in a plot of land beneath my window. I made Henry attend the funeral, holding him in place while I conducted the service. I explained to Henry the cycle of life, and how we are only snippets in time; we are cosmic dust that evaporates into the ethereal plane. I made him look at the poor bird’s carcass and reflect on his violence. I told Henry that in the hierarchy of the animal kingdom, a superior predator could have just as easily dispatched him into that hole of earth. I dunno if he absorbed the message, but I tried my best.
My other parakeet is Lester Young, one of my jazz idols. I will write about him in detail in another post. Lester and Billie were fellow-travelers and soul mates. Their story is one of incredible romance and soul-unifying beauty.
